As he explains in a note, Kimmel has created an original tale, adapting a Yemenite story ("The Answered Prayer") to the traditional Arabic "Joha" motif concerning a wise fool—e.g., Nasreddin Hoja and, possibly, Cervantes's Sancho Panza.
