Gr 5-8 Terri, a native of South Bass Island, Ohio, has a summer job working on the excavation of the old Victory Hotel, which burned down in 1919. Brian is vacationing with his parents at the adjacent campground. Prowling around the site, he finds a diary that belonged to his great-aunt Sophie, who had spent her girlhood summers at the Victory and died in a ferry accident.
