This first volume in a new anthology collects three tales of the undead, from a gristly encounter between convicts to a town brimming with zombies, to a group of survivors fighting to outrun a horde of the undead, to a madcap romp of automatons battling their now deceased creators. "Feast" by Shane McCarthy is the strongest of the three, opening with a brutal tale full of carnage and mayhem. While the plot is classic black horror, the artwork suffers slightly; the transitions between Chris Bolton and Enrique Lorenzana's distinctly different styles is jarring, interrupting the flow of the otherwise satisfying read. "Eclipse of the Dead," by El Torres and Sulaco Studios, has an appeal that comes from the strong character development of its motley group of protagonists. Where "Feast" is bleak, "Eclipse" is more of a tale of hope (after many, many people die most gruesome deaths, of course). Finally, "Complete Zombies vs. Robots" by Chris Ryall closes with an over-the-top yarn employing elements one would not expect in a zombie story. Ahsley Wood's loose, unconventional artwork seems an ill fit at first but winds up being a refreshing take. Ryall's often insane plot keeps the reader guessing but ultimately overextends itself. Verdict The three vastly different works offer a nice breadth and offer something for even the most jaded of horror readers. The language, violence, and graphic sex make this suitable only for adults.-George Sun, NY Copyright 2009 Media Source Inc. Copyright 2009 Media Source Inc. ...Log In or Sign Up to Read More
