An index to 368 English-language biographical dictionaries, the ABI provides A-to-Z access to information about roughly 250,000 North Americans from all walks of life who flourished from Columbian times to the early 20th century. Most of the sources indexed were published in the 19th century, and many are now quite rare, e.g., Cleave's Biographical Cyclopaedia of Homeopathic Physicians and Surgeons (1873).
