These new birding DVDs should be of great interest to library patrons, from those who own a feeder or birdhouse to the birding hobbyist to the budding naturalist. Birds, Birds, Birds! is somewhat less comprehensive than the other two. Featuring more than 200 species from the Eastern and Midwestern United States, it is arranged in general alphabetical order and concentrates on birdcalls and video or color stills as means of identification. The narrator offers mnemonic renderings of the birdcalls and identifies the species by common name. The video lacks an introduction explaining its arrangement, and some titles or captions beyond those on the top menu would have been helpful. Other than the differences in calls of each species, the video does not highlight differences in male and female plumage or means of distinguishing among lookalike species.
