El desierto chileno y las oficinas salitreras castigadas por el sol son los hostiles parajes donde el iluminado, mas conocido como el Cristo del Elqui, causara revuelo entre los lugarenos con sus predicas santas. Personajes grotescos y entranables, sermones afiebrados e inverosimiles milagros son los elementos con que Hernan Rivera Letelier construye esta inolvidable cronica de una epoca y una geografia unicas en una prosa llena de humor y surrealismo.
