In 1876 Tennessee, a winning raffle ticket stirs up trouble for African American Prometheus Jones, age thirteen, and his younger cousin Omer, when the Dill brothers, who had pawned the ticket off on them in lieu of wages, accuse Prometheus of stealing it.
