Gr 2-4 Clara the rhinoceros was apparently quite a curiosity in European cities of the 1740s. Her tour by ship, enormous horse-drawn cart, and even a raft on the Rhine River is told in this first-person picture-book account by the Dutch ship owner Douwe Van der Meer, who bought the animal from the man who had raised her in India.
